Peter Hayes is Emeritus Professor of Metallurgical Engineering within the School of Chemical Engineering, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. 

Prof Hayes has over 400 research publications in international journals and conferences,  

Prof Hayes’ research encompasses experimental studies on: 

• High temperature phase equilibria  
• Reaction kinetics and mechanisms in high temperature metallurgical systems. 

He was the Foundation Director of the Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre (PYROSEARCH) and developed strong research collaborations with the metallurgical industry. A feature of the research has been the focus on fundamental science in support of industrial process and process development.  

Prof Hayes received TMS Science Awards, Extraction and Processing Division 2004, 2010, 2012, 2018 and 2021. TMS Distinguished Service award 2018. TMS/CIM Peter Hayes Symposium on Pyrometallurgy 2018.
