We are excited to announce Dr Penny Stewart, CEO of PETRA Data Science will be a Keynote presenter at the Open Pit Operators Conference in 2021.

Dr Stewart will be presenting on The application of digital twin machine learning models for mine to mill, and pit-to-plant optimisation at the conference in July next year.

Penny is a mining engineer and the founder and CEO of mining AI software company PETRA Data Science. Penny worked on mine sites for five years before obtaining her Queensland 1st Class Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency. It was during her time working in the underground and open pit mines of WA and Tasmania that she learnt how geological uncertainty affects our ability to mine to plan.

Paul O’Grady

Paul O’Grady graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff in 1986 and attained a PhD in 1990. In 1990 he emigrated to Australia and joined the geotechnical consultancy Barret Fuller and partners where he remained until 1995. Paul joined Oakbridge as a Mining Engineer at Clarence Colliery in 1997. Since then Paul has worked for MIM, Anglo American, and BHP. This has included 12 years as a mine site Technical Services manager. Paul joined Xstrata (now Glencore) in 2009 and has been the Group Manager for Technical Services at Glencore Coal Assets Australia since 2014.

Engineers can apply to become Registered Professional Engineers of Queensland (RPEQ) through AusIMM’s assessment scheme. AusIMM’s RPEQ assessment follows the same peer recognition and assessment of competence process as the Chartered Professional program.
