Dr Bright Oppong Afum is a Professor in Mining at Cambrian College in Canada, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Ghana, a Professional Engineer and Chartered Professional in Mining. He holds doctorate’s degree in Natural Resources Engineering (Mining) from Laurentian University, Canada; master’s degree in Environmental Monitoring & Analysis from Aberystwyth University, United Kingdom, citation degree in Applied Geostatistics from University of Alberta, Canada; and bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Tarkwa campus), Ghana.

Dr Afum is a Mining/Environment Consultant with over 15 years of experience in the mining and minerals industry in Ghana, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada. He has served on several boards and committees including the Board of Governors and Financial Committee of the Laurentian University.

His experience spans from mine construction projects (EPCM); surface and underground mine planning, design, and operations; environmental management, reclamation, and remediation studies; explosives and blasting engineering; and lecturing.

He has developed several blasting and mining optimization models, and published and presented several articles at conferences and workshops in Ghana, Australia, Canada, Oman, United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, and South Africa.
