Mining Practice at Cleveland Tin N.L., Tasmania
A mechanized sub-level overhead benching method is used at Cleveland to produce 22,000 tons/month of ore assaying () 92 per cent Sn and OAO per cent Cu. The ore occurs in a series of nearly vertical lenses whichcan be mined by open stoping. Levels are developed at 60 ft vertical intervals by jumbo-mounted drills. The ore is silled out and the stope block formed between levels is drilled out by long hole drilling. Each row of holes is tired and broken ore within safe reach from the stope brow is mucked out by Wagner ST5-A Scoop Trams. The remaining broken ore is mainly recovered on extraction of the next lower level.Ore is hauled by road from the mine to the crusher station. As mining proceeds below the lowest surface portal a spiral decline will be used for ore haulage and mine servicing.
