Cuprous Hydrometallurgy Part VII. Separation and Purification of Copper(I) Chloride from a Chlorination Roast of Kambalda Nickel Matte using Solutions of Aqueous Acetonitrile
Solutions of acetonitrile in water dissolve water soluble copper(I) chloride. Removal of volatile acetonitrile from the resulting solutions, by distillation with low grade steam, precipitates pure copper(I) chloride. This is used to purify a crude copper chloride sublimate from the chlorination of nickel matte but is applicable to other sources of copper(I) chloride. The pure product can be converted to pure copper(I) oxide, copper(II) oxychloride or pure copper metal directly.
